Testimonials

I joined Innisfree Toastmasters less than 3 years ago, a friend thought I might be interested and she was right.  While I thought a few things were strange - Sgt at Arms, Invocation etc - the warm welcome I received put me at ease. Since I first very nervously put my hand up to do an "add on" during the topics session (11 seconds) I have completed my Competent Communicator, been teh webmaster for 2 years, was Vice President Education last year and this year I am a very proud President of the club. I have had great fortune in competition and last year represented Innisfree at the District 71 Conference in the Evaluation Competition. I also managed to win the fancy dress competition at the Dublin Inspire Conference this year. Not bad for a nervous, shy rookie!

Why Join Toastmasters

Of all the courses and groups I have joined, without doubt Toastmasters has had the greatest positive impact on my life. I believe the benefits of membership extend far beyond public speaking skills. I think almost everyone would benefit from joining toastmasters. Toastmasters began in 1924 through Ralph C. Smedley , the organization has since grown to over 200 000 members in over 90 countries worldwide. Focusing on public speaking and leadership skills, Toastmasters is one of the largest organized systems of personal development in the world.

Innisfree, The Club:

Innisfree Toastmasters meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from September to early June (Please check our Events Calendar for exact dates) we have a membership consisting of people from all walks of life, publicans, teachers, painters, shop keepers, civil servants and more.  We range in age from mid 20's to retired for some time

Is It For Me ?

Everyone in Innisfree Toastmasters was once at the level you are now. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment. And you’ll love the applause! Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths and suggest improvements. At first you’ll be applauded for your effort; later you’ll be applauded for your skill.

Not Just Public Speaking…

The skills learned in mastering public speaking and leadership are core skills neccessary for dealing with people in all manner of life and work situations. These skills are the communication skills you use many times every single day. Many people who have labeled themselves ‘shy or quiet' can find Toastmasters to be a fantastic place to rapidly improve their communication skills, make friends and find that they are in fact capable of much more than they realised.

But if you just go to one meeting and see the prepared speeches, this benefit of Toastmasters might not be apparent. It took me several weeksbefore I really found the undrlying benefits to Toastmasters. Although my improvement to public speaking came fairly quickly, it took a little longer to realise and later  recognise the benefits it has in all communications.
